He would tell the men from the European Theater, "you got your glory in the movies" that they could watch. He would ask for all the Pearl Harbor survivors to stand. Don Ho enjoyed asking for a show of hands of veterans of World War II. In his stage show, Ho would make jokes about being sent in the mid-1950s to Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi and being Hawaiian. From 1964 to 1969, Don's backing group was The Aliis: Al Akana, Rudy Aquino, Benny Chong, Manny Lagodlagod and Joe Mundo. Another song associated with Don was " Pearly Shells". In the fall of 1966, Ho released his most famous song, " Tiny Bubbles", which charted on both the pop (#57 Billboard) and easy listening charts and caused his subsequent album, also called " Tiny Bubbles", to remain in the album Top 200 for almost a year. In 1966 he released his second album, a live compilation called Don Ho – Again!, which charted in the early part of that year. Ho released his debut album, The Don Ho Show!, in 1965 and began to play high-profile locations in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and New York City. Ho was originally signed to Reprise Records. After much success, and little room to grow, promoter Kimo Wilder McVay sought Don to play at a night club called Duke's owned by Duke Kahanamoku, where he caught the attention of record company officials. The fable was brought to my mind when considering Jacqueline Humphries’s recent work – some of the strongest of her four-decade-long career – as seen at Greene Naftali this past fall, an exhibition that came in the immediate wake of her inclusion in last spring’s 59th Venice Biennale and a seven-year retrospective at the Wexner Center for the Arts, held in fall 2021. Only too late do the earthlings realize, to their horror, that it is in fact a cookbook, instructing these extraterrestrial beings on how to prepare their human hosts for consumption. When a cryptographer finally manages to translate the visitors’ mysterious language, humanity is relieved to find that it reads “TO SERVE MAN,” which is taken as a guarantee of the aliens’ goodwill. The plot of one of the most famous episodes of the old American television series The Twilight Zone hinges on the ambiguity of the title of a book brought to Earth by aliens. Linking her recent exhibition to works presented at last year’s Venice Biennale and the artist’s seven-year retrospective at the Wexner Center for the Arts in the fall of 2021, Tom McDonough conceives the show at Greene Naftali as an encapsulation of Humphries’s method, something he approaches through the ambiguities of the term “serving.” For him, it is not only about the dedication to the medium but also how Humphries concocts painting – be it the self-cannibalizing of previous paintings or translation of her paintings into ASCII code. Expanding on the impasto of her earlier works, the artist’s recent show featured stenciled motifs of emoticons and emojis, logos, and digitally-enlarged patterns derived from the spatter of an industrial spray gun. ![]() Despite all claims in the 1980s of painting’s alleged “obsolescence,” Jacqueline Humphries has for over three decades devoted herself extensively to this medium and to questions around the possibilities of painterly abstraction. ![]() ![]() If that happens with you, make sure you get professional assistance in removing them. It should not be a surprise to find a skunk making a home in your property or garage during the winter months. They would continue spending their time during the winters in a home they choose in a state of torpor and stay awake from time to time. They are not entirely inactive but tend to spend most of their time sleeping. However, they may spend most of their time in an inactive state, but their period of inactivity usually is of shorter duration. Well, as you might have clearly found out, skunks DO NOT hibernate as in the conventional sense of the word. Skunks are known to be nocturnal animals, and it may be practical enough to find them moving out for food at the night. While they may not have a specific time when it comes to moving out for food, they may be found foraging for food during the night. If anything is not available, they will spend the winter months eating frozen berries, grass, nuts, roots, and leaves. Some of these food items include eggs, snakes, insects, worms, and other small animals. Other than the grubs, skunks also tend to eat other food items if available. Since grubs are found lying on the ground, they would serve to bee their staple diet. They feed more on grubs, and they would find grubs in plentiful during the winter months. If they live in dens or holes, they will close the entrance to their dens with grasses and leaves. Sometimes, they may even prefer to spend the winters under a pile of leaves and logs. They would try finding a place that is extremely hard to find. Skunks are picky when it comes to the best spots to spend during winters. This is one of the reasons why skunks eat excess food and gain weight so that they have enough fat that they can burn during the winter. They will lose around 25 to 30 percent of their body weight during these months. The state of torpor or lethargic sleep will extend between December and March in the northern hemisphere. ![]() The skunks will spend the winter months in a state of lethargic sleep, moving out only when they are in need of food. You may also find a communal den with a skunk and her babies.
